Hinkley Point C - February Update
A round up of the latest news from Hinkley Point C. Find out about our latest milestone achievement, our ongoing response to Covid-19, the next HPC Jobs Service virtual Drop-in and more.
First milestone for 2021 achieved
Cooling Water Pipes installed
The outlet water pipes for our cooling water system on Reactor 2 have been installed ahead of schedule. These pipes will ferry water between the Pump House and the Turbine Building.

Across the site, over 700 pipes have been installed, the largest ones wide enough to fit a Mini Cooper in!

Focus for the Conventional Island of Reactor 2 now turns to the construction of the Turbine Building and Galleries.
Our path to Dome Lift
Dome Lift Conference
Thousands of people from across the Project joined our interactive virtual Dome ‘22 conferences in January. At these events, we talked about all the elements which will be accomplished by the end of 2022, including:
  • Tunnels complete
  • Turbine Hall complete
  • Connection to the Grid complete
  • 80% of the Civil work and 20% of the MEH work finished
  • 90% of Reactor 1's equipment and 70% of Reactor 2's equipment delivered to Site
Covid-19 Update
Effective measures continue to be in place to protect our workforce and local community. We are now carrying out around 1,000 tests a week, allowing us to identify symptomatic and asymptomatic cases and cut out transmission from those who may not be showing symptoms.

Testing is only one of the many tools we have in place to keep everyone safe, you can find out more on our website here.
Managing our workforce
Virtual Engagement
We've been engaging with local communities to ensure they understand our latest plans to increase our workforce to a peak of around 8,500 at the back end of 2022.

A recurring question from the public relates to Covid-19. During the pandemic, the number of people on the Hinkley Point C site will be limited by the many measures in place to ensure the safety of workers and the community. The peak in numbers is not planned until the end of 2022, and an increase in workers will only be possible when we assume normal conditions without Covid-19 constraints.
