And it feels like it has been around for much longer than that. We have made so much progress in that time and across Newcastle we are all starting to work as a team. There had already been significant progress in building relationships and working together before Collaborative Newcastle was created, but the last year has really seen this take off. Read more… | | | Joint health and care apprenticeship launched | An innovative, joint apprenticeship programme launched in Newcastle is thought to be the first of its kind in the country. The integrated health and social care support worker apprenticeship is aimed at those looking for a career in the caring profession. Developed through Collaborative Newcastle and launched last year, the apprenticeship involves structured education and training to gain the required knowledge, skills and behaviours to work in the sector, and includes work experience split between hospital and social care settings. Read more… | | Covid hub drives economic growth | The region’s integrated Covid hub, which was developed by Collaborative Newcastle partners during the first wave of the pandemic, is continuing to deliver opportunities and projects to support economic growth in the region. In addition to the 800 jobs already created in the hub, further developments include 21 commercial scientific contracts signed with companies as far afield as China and the establishment of a regional call centre to provide support for local councils and the NHS. Read more... | | Newcastle retains status as a global ‘climate leader’ | Newcastle has successfully maintained its grade A status from environmental impact charity CDP, which recognises cities with clear plans and goals to reaching carbon neutrality. One of only 95 cities worldwide to achieve this in 2021, Newcastle has developed an ambitious ‘Net Zero Newcastle – 2030 Action Plan’ which is being driven forward by Collaborative Newcastle partners across the city to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Over 1,000 cities disclosed their climate data to CDP this year and fewer than one in 10 received the top grade.
