Updated newsletter: 31 July 2024
Following the Chancellor's announcement earlier this week, this is an updated version of New Frimley Park Hospital update: Newsletter Issue 3.

This week the Government announced a full and comprehensive review of the national new hospital programme and said that it is undertaking this review while continuing to deliver the most advanced and most urgent hospitals to a realistic timeframe.

We are working closely with national and regional partners to understand more about what, if anything, the review might mean for our new hospital programme. We will update staff and communities as soon as we have received additional clarity and understanding.

While this review is ongoing, our work to build a new Frimley Park Hospital will continue to progress at pace. Over the last few months, we have been developing the detailed technical, legal and planning due diligence on our preferred sites. At the same time, we have been preparing the necessary business and planning cases to purchase a new site.

While we develop and build our new Frimley Park Hospital, we will also continue with our extensive RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) maintenance programme to keep our hospital, patients, and staff safe. The need to remove all RAAC from hospitals is the driving force behind the new Frimley Park Hospital timeline.

We are also currently building a new inpatient and diagnostic unit, including a dedicated breast care diagnostic area, which will be an extension to the existing Frimley Park Hospital. This will serve to both provide much needed extra capacity, as well as space to care for patients while wards are undergoing vital remedial RAAC or refurbishment works.

Hearing from the public and staff around our new hospital is crucial for ultimately improving our communities health and increasing staff morale. Stay tuned for our latest developments and opportunities to have your say.

New Frimley Park Hospital Programme Team

What a new hospital means for our staff

A new hospital brings many exciting opportunities for our staff. It means better facilities, modern equipment, and a more comfortable environment to work in. We want to involve our staff every step of the way, making sure their voices are heard. By capturing their ideas and feedback, we can feed this into the programme, and create a hospital that meets everyone's needs.

“Having a new state-of-the-art hospital will be beneficial not just for our patients but also our staff. My job takes me around the whole of the hospital site, and all the banging and drilling where the builders are maintaining the RAAC areas doesn’t make for a relaxing environment for the patients. I am excited for the new hospital and can’t wait to find out more about the new build.”

Brett Lee, Senior Security Supervisor

Working with our partners

As a large acute hospital, it is very important for us to work closely with other healthcare providers, such as our local Integrated Care System (ICS). These partnerships help us share knowledge, resources, and skills, allowing us to improve our services and meet the needs of our community more effectively.

Watch this video below from Steve Manley, Strategic Lead for Engagement and Communications at NHS Frimley, discussing NHS Frimley's support for the new Frimley Park Hospital, the key benefits the new hospital will bring to our community and the importance of your feedback.

Programme team update

When we joined the national New Hospital Programme last year, Nigel Foster assumed the role of Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the new hospital, and thanks to his focus and vision, we made significant progress.

Nigel left the trust at the end of May, and Kish Sidhu incorporated the SRO function into his role as Chief Finance Officer for the Trust. It was a privilege to work with Nigel and we are grateful for the strong position he has put our new hospital programme in.

In case you missed it: site selection process

Building a new hospital on the current site is not a viable option, and as a result, the new Frimley Park Hospital will be on a different site.

Progress has been made towards narrowing down the potential site for the new hospital using feedback from the first engagement session to help with the site selection.

Visit our website for more information and watch this video below explaining our site selection process so far and how this was used to narrow down the potential sites.
