January 2025                                                                  Issue 59

Dear Stakeholders,

Happy new year!

Welcome to the first stakeholder newsletter of 2025, we hope you had a happy holiday period.

Its been a very busy start to the new year as Electricity North West colleagues and customers battled severe weather, including wind, freezing temperatures snow and flooding.

Across the new year Greater Manchester teams battled treacherous conditions, working with local emergency responders to gain access to sites which had been submerged with flood water. Thanks to our investment in technology, 90% of the 16,700 properties affected, had power restored within three minutes by rerouting supplies, however, some customers, as you can see above, were severely impacted. Some of the worst impacted areas included Platt Bridge, Hyde, Stockport and Didsbury with access to sites proving incredibly difficult. Our customer contact centre handled more than 2,000 calls and also made close to 2,000 proactive calls to those customers in greatest need. Read more here.

The flooding was the quickly followed by freezing temperatures and snow across most of the region, particularly on the Saturday evening. More than 17,000 customers were impacted, but again investment in automated technology meant that nearly 11,000 were restored within three minutes. Thanks to our colleagues and stakeholder partners who have helped us and our customers during this challenging start to the new year.

In November we held our annual stakeholder engagement events in Lancaster and Manchester, thank you to everyone who joined us. We are delighted to have published our Regional Stakeholder Events Capture Report. The report reflects what we told stakeholders at the events, and what they told us. The insights we received will continue to feed into our current and future business planning. Find out more below. Access the report here.

In this month's newsletter we also invite you to take part in our Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey. We really need your help to reflect your feedback in our ongoing planning. Our Extra Care Partnership Fund is now open for expressions of interest from charities and local organisations.

Our gas and transmission energy partners have recently submitted their future business plans to Ofgem. National Grid launched their RIIO-T3 business plan and Electricity North West are speaking at their upcoming webinar to discuss the business plan on Monday 20 January.

Likewise, Cadent and Northern Gas Networks recently published their RIIO-GD3 business plans. Northern Gas are hosting a webinar  about their plan on Wednesday 29 January.

You’re invited to take part in our Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey

This month we have launched our fifth annual stakeholder satisfaction survey.

We would really like to encourage you to take part so that we are able to reflect your feedback in our ongoing improvement plans.

Your feedback is invaluable in helping us identify opportunities to improve, manage risk, and deliver even greater value to you—our valued customers and stakeholders.

The survey is being administered by our independent research partner, Feedback Research. The survey will remain open until Friday 14th February 2025, however we would appreciate you completing it as soon as possible.

You can access the survey now using the link below:

ENWL Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey

Please note that a survey is only registered as completed (and the £5 charity incentive paid) when the participant submits on the final page. This will then automatically take them to the ENWL Stakeholder Engagement page on the website.

Alternatively, we can arrange a convenient time to obtain your feedback via telephone. Please indicate that you would like to take part in this way by contacting Electricity North West at stakeholderengagement@enwl.co.uk.

The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete and to thank you for participating we will be making a £5 charitable donation to a charity you select from a list provided at the end of the survey.

Stakeholder regional events capture report

Our open invitation, face-to-face regional stakeholder events took place in November 2024 and were held in Lancaster, with a focus on our Cumbria and Lancashire power network, and Manchester city centre, focussing on our Greater Manchester network.

This year’s key themes were Investment and delivery – our investment plan for 2023-2028, our delivery strategy and what we have delivered so far, Environment & biodiversity – including our Environment Action Plan and our biodiversity commitment, Innovation – including our innovation plan and the progress made with our Net Zero terrace project and Consumers in vulnerable circumstances – including our Take Charge campaign to support customers with debt advice and the low carbon energy transition.

We also heard from our independent advisory panel chairs, who hold us to account to ensure that stakeholder and customer engagement continues to inform our RIIO-ED2 Business Plan delivery, informing decisions that we make along the way and ensuring that we deliver against the commitments we made to stakeholders.

We heard from attendees during Q&A sessions and round table discussions to get stakeholders’ views on what they considered to be the key areas where we can support them.

The purpose of this report is to capture and respond to the feedback and discussions that took place. We are grateful to all those who attended one of the workshops and value the discussions that took place. Click here to access the report.
