We are listening
Opportunity for Children and Young People to get involved
Has your child or young person stayed in hospital in Scunthorpe or Grimsby? We want to hear the experiences of children and young people who have had hospital stays in paediatric (children’s) wards, as part of our consultation.

A theatre group called Playing ON will be hosting drama workshops in Scunthorpe. They use games, storytelling, and improvisation to help children share their experiences. The sessions are fun and engaging – children love them.

We believe that hearing children’s and young people’s views about what is important to them when they are patients in hospital is essential so that we can think about ways of making services better for young patients in the future.

The sessions are free and will take place on Wednesday 25th October 2023. If your child, teenager or someone you know has had a stay in hospital in the last three years and would like to take part, please get in touch by emailing hnyicb.consultation@nhs.net, call us on 03033 306666 or book online:

Our Consultation goes out on the road
Our consultation about our proposal to change the way some services are delivered at our hospitals in Scunthorpe and Grimsby, has been out on the road talking to local people and ensuring people in our communities can find out more about our proposal, ask questions and tell our clinicians and senior leaders what they think about our suggested changes.

Approxamately 200 people attended our Exhibition Events in Goole, Grimsby and Scunthorpe which ran from 12.00 noon – 8.00pm, to enable more people to attend.

More Public drop-ins
We were very pleased that our local press, radio and television publicised the events happening, which we believe helped to let people know when and where to go to have their say.

We also held pop-up stalls to promote the consultation in Freeman Street Market, Goole Leisure Centre and the Pods Leisure Centre in Scunthorpe. We are organising more events and urge everyone to keep an eye out for what’s happening next.
So look out for information through X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook to help you get involved whether by coming to a meeting or completing our online questionnaire.
Don’t forget our online event
For those who can’t get to external events, or who just prefer to do things online, please get yourself booked into our virtual event on Wednesday 6th December 6.30–8pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Your questions answered
You say our services can’t cope as it is – how can this help? Won’t it just be another distraction?
Our health and care system across the Humber needs to change. As it is currently designed, it is struggling to meet the needs of all local people and the way services are set up means it is not equipped to do so in the future. This is about putting in place a robust plan to ensure hospital services, and care that is provided in local communities, are the best they can possibly be - and are sustainable and fit for the future.
Does this mean hospitals are currently unsafe?
Our priority will always be to keep you safe and provide excellent standards of care when you need us. That's why in recent years we've had to make some really difficult decisions to change how we do things to make sure we can keep providing care that is safe.

Whilst we work hard to ensure our services remain safe today, we need to plan for the longer term recognising some of the challenges we have now and others that are coming over the horizon so we can ensure our services will continue to be safe for the longer term.

The proposal we are consulting on, is about future-proofing services so they can continue to be delivered safely in the long term.
